January Resolutions ‘16
Every year, people kick off the New Year by creating resolutions. Some people decide they are going to start exercising, or eating healthy. Some people decide that this is the year to find love, or this year they're going to travel the world. The thing about resolutions is a lot of people give up within the first month. Resolutions don't have to be something that you do everyday, they can be things that you start to do and then just do your best to continue as well. Or they can be a change in mindset, for instance, wanting to make healthier choices, but not completely cutting out sugar and the occasional eggs benny on the weekend.
Whatever your resolution, just keep in mind it's okay to cheat once and awhile, just don't give up!
Now that Christmas is over, I'm going to create my resolutions to start on the first day of January.
1. Practice Yoga at least once a week.
I never knew how amazing a yoga class was until I went to Yoga Santosha a couple years back. I had tried to get into yoga in university but wasn't able to enjoy the type of classes that they had, and found myself feeling more stressed out after leaving a class.
I started at Santosha with one of their wall yoga classes. My friend Lynds and I tried their 30 day challenge, and our first reaction was what on earth did we get into. It was a combination of teachers and a diverse array of classes for whatever your comfort level, but we both really enjoyed ourselves and after the 30 days, I become a monthly member.
Although I haven't been as diligent since then, yoga has been a source of calm for me, and in January, I will make it my goal to go at least once a week to relieve my stress, practice my breathing and get a little bit more exercise.
2. Keep my kitchen clean.
This one might seem small, but for me, this is a big thing that I want to accomplish in 2017. My kitchen is already pretty small, and when you combine a couple meals worth of dishes and all my various kitchen equipment, it gets stressful in there. J is also a stickler for a clean kitchen and cutting board (goodness knows why he stays with me), and I know the kitchen in my apartment drives him crazy.
So for him and me, I want to keep the kitchen consistently clean to encourage more cooking and baking in the kitchen as well as more time spent cooking together.
3. Embrace Change and focusing on the present.
This may be more of a 'duh' thing to do, but I want to work on my willingness to embrace change. I have found that in the past 4 years, my life has completely changed, from who I surround myself with, to what I'm looking for in life. There have been times that I find it tough to let people go, and I find myself becoming nostalgic often, thinking of how things used to be. I want to focus on embracing change and focusing on what is right in front of me rather than missing something that used to be.
So for 2017, I will take more time to appreciate what I have, the people in my life, and the way that things have turned out. Ultimately you can't go back, so you might as well go forward.
