Decor Inspirations: Nordic Holiday
Hello! It’s been awhile, but I wanted to come back with some great inspirations for Nordic Holiday Decor. My new sister-in-law is from Finland, and let’s be honest, my trip to Norway and my love of IKEA already gave me great inspiration for what to do for the holidays.
I think we can all agree that this year has been insane, but it’s given me lots of time to cultivate new skills, and the ability to create and DIY. I’ve loved getting inspired through Pinterest and Youtube videos. Since we live in a smaller apartment, I wanted to make sure that we didn’t do too much, and any decor we added for the holidays was tasteful and didn’t make the apartment seem smaller than it already was, only cozier.
I used to put together Hygge posts (check them out here) that garnered some reads back in the day, and I’ll be sure to link those below, but that is what first drew me to the nordic style and lifestyle. There is a similar word in Dutch (my background) Gezelligheid. It’s very similar, but it boils down to creating an open, fun and relaxed atmosphere and the word knows no seasons, it can be done in the heat of summer or the rainy cold of winter. It is somewhere between the feeling of comfy and cozy and enjoying the atmosphere created.
This feeling is what I wanted to elicit when I walked into the apartment, soft lighting, muted neutrals and leveraging the use of our fireplace on cold nights. Here are a few things that are inspiring me while I create my Nordic Holiday Decor.
I’ve decided to update this entry because it’s the holidays again, and I feel as thought during this colder period, everyone wants to feel warm and cozy. Here are some ways I’m doing that now with these little ceramic houses and paper trees from Bouclair, Crate and Barrel, West Elm and Anthropologie, I’ve included the links below if you wanted to get some yourself!
