Decor Inspirations: Paris Modern

I’ve been working with a friend of mine on redesigning her apartment and we’ve been going back and forth on Milanote (great software for designs/moodboards/project plans). We started at trying to meld Mid Century Modern with her style as a lot of the furniture pieces she already fit that scheme, and then I started learning more about the style. If you're looking to create a modern Parisian decor scheme, you can draw inspiration from the chic and sophisticated style that is synonymous with the City of Light. It’s a little difficult to accomplish in a small space, but here are some ways to incorporate that style into your space:

Choose a Neutral Color Palette

Parisian modern decor often features a neutral color palette with muted tones such as white, gray, beige, and soft pastels. These colors create a clean and sophisticated look that serves as a perfect backdrop for other elements in the room.

Incorporate Classic Elements

Parisian style often blends classic and contemporary elements. Consider incorporating classic elements like elegant furniture with curved lines, ornate mirrors, and intricate moldings. These timeless pieces add a touch of sophistication to the modern aesthetic.

Opt for Sleek and Minimalist Furniture

In a modern Parisian decor scheme, furniture tends to be sleek, minimalist, and functional. Look for furniture with clean lines and simple silhouettes, and avoid ornate or overly decorative pieces. Upholstery in natural fabrics like linen or cotton in neutral tones can add a touch of elegance.

Use Statement Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood in a Parisian modern decor scheme. Consider adding statement lighting fixtures such as chandeliers or pendant lights with a modern twist. Opt for fixtures with clean lines and simple designs that complement the overall aesthetic of the room.

Add Art and Accessories

Paris is known for its rich artistic culture, so incorporating art and accessories is a must for a Parisian modern decor scheme. Choose modern art pieces with bold, abstract or geometric designs, or opt for classic art with a contemporary twist. Consider adding decorative accessories such as vases, sculptures, or decorative trays to enhance the overall aesthetic of the room.

Incorporate Luxurious Fabrics

Parisian modern decor often incorporates luxurious fabrics that add a touch of elegance and sophistication. Look for fabrics like velvet, silk, or faux fur for upholstery, pillows, and throws. These fabrics can add warmth and texture to the space, creating a cozy yet refined atmosphere.

Pay Attention to Details

In Parisian style, the attention is in the details. Consider incorporating small details like decorative trims, tassels, or intricate hardware on furniture or accessories. These subtle details can elevate the overall aesthetic of the room and add a touch of Parisian charm. There is a massive trend going on right now that

Keep It Clutter-Free

Modern Parisian decor tends to be minimalistic and clutter-free. Avoid overcrowding the room with too many decorative items or furniture pieces. Keep the space clean, organized, and visually balanced to create a sleek and sophisticated look. In smaller spaces, I totally get this is next to impossible, but try getting sleek cabinets that match the wall colour (and maybe have a similar wall treatment on them) that allows you to tuck away everything knick-knacky and use basket storage to keep it aesthetic when you do have to open up those cabinets.

Embrace Natural Elements

Parisian modern decor often incorporates natural elements like wood, marble, or stone. Consider adding these materials in the form of furniture, countertops, or accessories to add warmth and texture to the space.

Create an Inviting Seating Area

Parisian modern decor often prioritizes comfort and hospitality. Create an inviting seating area with comfortable seating options such as plush sofas, armchairs, and ottomans. Add soft and cozy throws and pillows to create a welcoming atmosphere for guests.

You can create a modern Parisian decor scheme that is elegant, sophisticated, and chic. Remember to strike a balance between classic and contemporary elements, incorporate luxurious fabrics, pay attention to details, and keep the space clutter-free.

What do you think, is Paris Modern your style?
